About Iker:

His passion for luthery developed organically when he began working as a sound technician. Initially, he started modifying and repairing his guitars and those of the musicians he collaborated with. Over time, this passion intensified, prompting him to elevate his skills. He made the decision to enroll in the Basque School of Violin Making (BELE), a turning point that transformed his life, placing luthery at the forefront.

The school primarily focused on bowed string instruments, although his primary interest lay in guitars. Despite this, the institution provided a comprehensive education over the next four years, covering the fundamentals, materials, tools, and acoustic properties of musical instruments. This period proved to be a profoundly enriching experience.

Simultaneously, he established a personal workspace at home, embarking on a self-taught journey to craft his first guitar. This process taught him numerous valuable lessons, with the most significant being the unwavering conviction to dedicate himself to guitar making.

Towards the conclusion of his studies at the Basque School of Violin Making (BELE), he secured a scholarship for an apprenticeship at Mirko Borghino’s workshop (Borghino Guitars) in northern Italy. This experience played a pivotal role in shaping his perspective on luthery and guitars. Engaging in the creation and repair of instruments under Borghino’s guidance, he expanded his knowledge and crafted his first Archtop guitar.

Upon completing his stint in Italy, he returned to his hometown, Ortuella in the Basque Country, marking the initiation of his professional career as a luthier. Upgrading his workspace, he began designing his unique guitar models under the brand ARIMA GUITARS.

Today, he continues to deepen his understanding of the field, maintaining the same enthusiasm that ignited his journey into luthery.
