BOVEDA 49% - GUITAR HUMIDITY CONTROL SYSTEM
effortless protection of your guitar
Without proper humidity control, fine guitars will not perform at their full capacity and, worse, can be damaged. To maintain their shape, guitars should be stored at a stable 45-55% RH (relative humidity). Wide fluctuations in humidity will cause the wood of your concert guitar to expand or shrink, which puts pressure on the instrument and degrades its playability.
Stop risking damaging your guitar by adding water. Only Boveda’s 49% patented bi-directional humidity control adds or removes moisture as conditions require to maintain the ideal humidity level in your instrument case. Boveda 49% helps prevent warping or cracking and eliminates downtime for service. Because Boveda is maintenance-free, your instrument will always be protected.
Boveda 49% automatically adds and absorbs moisture slowly and precisely using only pure water and natural salts.
Simply open the outer plastic wrapper (if you have one), then remove the Boveda. Place the pack in its dedicated Boveda bag and place it in your case in an area where there will be no pressure when you close the case, being careful not to cut or tear the Boveda pack.
Boveda 49% is easy to use. Simply open the plastic wrap on the outside of your package, then remove the Boveda. Put the pack in its dedicated Boveda bag and place it in your case in an area where there will be no pressure when you close the case. Be careful not to cut or tear the Boveda container.
Boveda’s patented bi-directional humidity control makes it easy to protect your wooden instruments with precision. Wooden instruments should be kept between 45% and 55% relative humidity. Boveda eliminates large fluctuations in temperature and relative humidity inside the instrument case. Boveda 49% RH stabilizes the environment to prevent damage to wood from exposure to fluctuations.
Using two Boveda 2-way humidity control packs, place them in the two fabric holders.
Wrap the first fabric holder around the strings or…
Drape the fabric holder over your strings.
Nestle the second fabric holder under or over the neck to maintain moisture balance near the headstock and fretboard. Avoid placing Boveda where it might be punctured and where there is the greatest opportunity for airflow. Shut the lid and keep the case closed whether your guitar is in there or not.
When Boveda is completely dry, it will turn hard and solid. You’ll want to replace them right before the point when there are only a few spots left. See video.
Adding more than the minimum amount of humidity control packs as recommended by Boveda is perfectly ok, and in some cases, even required when factoring dry climates, seasonality, or very leaky storage containers. See video.
If your Boveda is being depleted quickly (less than 2 months) then you know that Boveda is working extra hard to keep that environment stable. The solution is to verify that your storage case doesn’t need to be re-seasoned, or to add more Boveda packs. See video.
