Description

The rosette of this classical guitar design is inspired by Vicente Arias work. The mosaic pattern is present on the binding of his 1874 curly maple guitar and on the rosette of his 1890 11-string guitar.
The aesthetic details of the headstock are reminiscent of 19th century Italian guitars.

MatĂas Ezequiel Rojas and Carmen Sanzol were born in Buenos Aires – Argentina, where they acquired their training as guitar makers. In 2007 they took their first steps in the trade in a school located in the historic center of the city. After meeting there, they finished their internships and began professional activity together. In the following years they deepened their knowledge with different teachers, both in the field of guitars and violins, thus participating in various specific seminars on luthiery (traditional varnishes used in bowed and plucked string instruments, setups of electric and acoustic instruments, physical and acoustic properties and influences of woods and bracing throughout history, methods and materials suitable within conservative restoration). Starting in 2016, they complement their construction and restoration work with teaching. Two years later, research work began on the functioning of ancient keyboard instruments. In collaboration with distinguished specialists within the field, they made an Italian polygonal spinetta inspired by the model of the Renaissance luthier Domenicus Pisaurensis, fecit 1540. The years after 2019 they specialized in the construction of multi-string and flamenco guitars, acquiring great experience with Rodolfo Edgardo Luis Cucculelli with whom they worked together in the creation of various instruments.

In 2021 they move to Italy, Cremona, where they have the opportunity to analyze, restore and write reports based on some guitars dating from the Italian Ottocento and Novecento period. In 2023 they began to frequent Suji Kim’s workshop in Parma, acquiring knowledge about the violin-making method of the Scrollavezza School.
They have recently won 3rd prize in the Antonio Marin Montero international guitar builders competition in Granada.

They currently carry out their activity in Italy, in a town immersed in the Appennino Piacentino called Santa Cecilia (like the patron saint of music), located in Val Trebbia, Coli. Their instruments are made entirely by hand with traditional construction techniques and exclusively organic materials.
