Raoul Aldrovandi started out studying engineering before realising that his real calling was working with wood. He left university and spent years honing his skills as a carpenter — carving, sculpting, and turning — before a single live classical guitar concert changed everything. The experience moved him deeply and set him on a new path: learning to play, and then to build.
He trained in guitar making under Spanish luthier Pablo Requena, and his engineering background naturally shaped the way he approaches the craft. Drawing on the writings of Mario Garrone, Giuseppe Cuzzucoli, and Trevor Gore, Aldrovandi developed a methodical, data-driven working method — measuring tonewoods, studying acoustics, and documenting each instrument’s properties systematically.
After receiving enthusiastic feedback from professional players, he committed to lutherie full time. His guitars reflect a rare combination: the warmth of traditional craftsmanship and the precision of an analytical mind.
