Leonardo De Gregorio is an Italian luthier and professional guitarist whose work bridges refined musicianship with masterful craftsmanship. A student of Gianluca Persichetti, he graduated with top honors in classical guitar from the Conservatory of Music “A. Casella” in L’Aquila. He further refined his artistry through advanced studies with distinguished musicians such as Bruno Battisti D’Amario, Massimo Delle Cese, and Arturo Tallini at the International Music Academy “Arts Academy” in Rome. He also attended masterclasses with internationally renowned guitarists including Roland Dyens, David Russell, and the Assad Brothers.
As a performer, De Gregorio has appeared as a soloist with the Guitensemble—an orchestra of guitars founded and directed by Arturo Tallini—participating in numerous prestigious Italian musical events. He has performed extensively in duo with Andrea Pace as the “Libra Guitar Duo,” earning recognition at the VII National Competition “Giulio Rospigliosi” in the chamber music category. His musical versatility extends to chamber ensembles, jazz harmony and electric guitar studies with Fabio Zeppetella, and session work in various Roman groups. He has recorded for albums and television, collaborating with Nicola Piovani and Antonio Di Pofi, and contributing guitar parts to the soundtrack of the TV series Un medico per amico, broadcast on RAI 1.
In 2000, Leonardo De Gregorio began dedicating himself to the art of luthiery, drawing inspiration from the great masters of the past such as Antonio de Torres and Hermann Hauser, while remaining attentive to contemporary experimentation. Shortly thereafter, he built his first guitar. His professional experience as a classical guitarist has deeply influenced his approach to instrument making, leading him to focus on the qualities most valued by performers: responsiveness, projection, and ease of playability. His instruments are increasingly appreciated by experts and enthusiasts alike.
In 2016, he was awarded the historic “La Ruota d’Oro” prize by the Rotary Club of Rome, in recognition of his significant contribution to the promotion of artistic craftsmanship. He has also served as Professor of Classical Guitar at the Accademia Musicale Praeneste.
