Gabriele Ballabio:
He began his career in the world of music working as a sound assistant at the Lark Recording Studio in Carimate assisting and collaborating on the recordings of Allan Goldberg, ( Fabrizio De André, Pino Daniele, Ivano Fossati, Yes, Paul Young, Shel Shapiro, Alice, Phil Manzanera, Tony Levin, Jerry Marotta.).
At a young age he obtained the diploma of cabinetmaker-sculptor and that of master luthier and bowmaker at the Gubbio School of Violin Making with the masters Ildebrando M. and Guerriero S., a school in which he then worked as a teacher for the following 4 years.
In 1997 he opened his own lutherie workshop carrying out both the repair, restoration and construction of classical bowed instruments and guitars.
His passion for the guitar led him to specialize in the construction techniques of this extraordinary instrument with increasing care and attention, thus choosing – to dedicate himself to guitar lutherie – under the guidance of maestro G.Giussani.
Today he proposes and performs his own personal guitar models – classical – jazz – folk – electric – acoustic bass – mod. left-handed, but also replicas of historical models, applying particular care and long seasoning and selection for the woods.
Since 2003, in collaboration with Maestro Edoardo Catemario, he has carried out various restorations starting from his collection of ancient guitars, Torres-Ramirez primero-Ramirez segundo-Simplicio-Galan-Nunez-Casa Nunez-Santos Hernandez-Ibanez etc etc.
